Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a collective term for conditions arising from blood clots forming in the veins. It primarily includes Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), where clots develop in deep veins, often in the legs, and Pulmonary Embolism (PE), where a DVT clot breaks off and travels to the lungs. VTE is a leading cause of preventable hospital death, with risk factors including surgery, prolonged immobility, cancer, and certain genetic conditions. Prophylactic measures and anticoagulant therapy are essential for prevention and treatment.
