Angina, specifically angina pectoris, is chest pain or discomfort caused by reduced blood flow to the heart muscle (myocardium). It is a symptom of coronary artery disease, occurring when the heart's oxygen demand exceeds its supply. Angina can manifest as a squeezing, pressure, heaviness, tightness, or pain in the chest, sometimes radiating to the arms, neck, jaw, back, or stomach. While often stable and predictable, chronic angina can significantly impact quality of life and may progress to more severe forms, necessitating careful management.
