#brittle nails

Brittle nails, medically known as onychoschizia or hapalonychia, are characterized by nails that are soft, thin, or easily split, peel, and break. This condition often results from excessive exposure to water, harsh chemicals, or nail polish removers, which can strip natural oils from the nail plate. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly iron or biotin, or underlying medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, can also contribute to nail brittleness. Protecting nails from trauma and maintaining proper hydration are key preventive measures.
