#Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
Skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are a group of infections affecting the epidermis, dermis, subcutaneous tissue, fascia, and muscle. These infections are commonly caused by bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes, entering through breaks in the skin. They can range in severity from mild, localized conditions like cellulitis or impetigo, to life-threatening necrotizing fasciitis. Symptoms typically include redness, swelling, warmth, pain, and sometimes fever. Treatment depends on the type and severity of the infection, often involving antibiotics, and sometimes surgical drainage or debridement.
