Uses

• Treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis (red eye).
• Reduces swelling, redness, and itching caused by infection.
• Prevents bacterial growth and supports faster healing.
• Post-surgical or injury-related eye inflammation (as prescribed).

How to Use

• Dosage: 1–2 drops into the affected eye(s) every 4–6 hours, or as prescribed by a doctor.
• Administration: Wash hands, tilt head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid, instill drop(s), and close the eye. Avoid touching the dropper tip.
• Duration: Complete full course of treatment even if symptoms improve early.

Side Effects

Possible but generally mild and temporary:

• Temporary stinging, burning, or blurred vision
• Watery eyes, eye discomfort
• Rare: allergic reaction, eye pain, secondary fungal infections with prolonged use

Interactions

May interact with other topical ophthalmic medications. If using multiple eye drops, allow at least 10 minutes between applications. Prolonged corticosteroid use may increase intraocular pressure—monitor patients with glaucoma risk.

How It Works

Chloramphenicol inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, stopping infection spread. Dexamethasone reduces inflammation by suppressing immune responses in the eye. Together they clear infection and soothe inflammation.
